Truffles – mushrooms that grow a few centimeters underground and are not easy to find, which is why they are the most sought between the mushrooms. Truffles have been known since the time of the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks, and were rediscovered in the 19th century.

They are characterized by their intense aroma, which can best be described as a combination of old cheese and onion, and which is perfectly combined with pasta, risotto, eggs, parmesan, but also with dishes that include meat.

Today we would like to tell you the story of Vasko, who lives in Udovo, a village in the south of Macedonia and ten years ago he started doing this hobby.

He found out about the truffle collection technique from his friend from Serbia, so he started researching Macedonia.

The technique of collecting truffles is not simple, because as we already mentioned they grow a few centimeters underground. It takes dedication and constant study of the nature and the weather, but the most important thing is to have a good team of dogs. Well-trained dogs that will help you find the truffle.

Macedonia is a country rich with mushrooms, which according to Vasko is an advantage when it comes to healthy food.

This mushroom has huge health benefits. It is most recommended for people suffering from diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

It is rich in protein and minerals, and also has a large amount of calcium, iron, sodium, magnesium and many vitamins.

At the beginning of his hobby, he trained dogs from the breed Lagotto Romagnolo, which according to him are the best helpers. These dogs are quite intelligent and learn very quickly. Vasko trains them when they are small, and in the meantime they acquire the necessary skills to find the truffles easier. For him, the most important thing is for the dogs to be constantly rewarded and respected.

If we sum up this hobby has several advantages, you explore the Macedonian mountains, you have physical activities and you consume healthy food.

The search for this natural gold for Vasco can last even the entire day. His adventure begins in the early mornings and can end late at night, so all lovers of this hobby deserve a great respect. The fatigue is not a problem for him because he has his dogs with him which gives him positive energy. There are days when the search for truffles ends at noon, so he spends the rest of the day with the dogs in nature.

He dedicates most of the day to the dogs because they have the greatest credit for what your day will be like. Finally, Vasko hopes that one day his three-year-old daughter will show interest in this hobby so that they can explore the Macedonian mountains together.
